Our Story
Curtis Cake Co. was founded by Meredith and Scott Layton, creators of the Buttermilk Sky Pie Franchise. "Curtis Cakes" came from a love for delicious homemade pound cake and are named after their own “dog pound."
Curtis Cake Company’s four-legged brand ambassadors include three heartwarming labs, Curtis (yellow), Grizzly (chocolate) and Drake (black), plus two strong-willed mini dachshunds, Ruby and Maple.
It all started with Scott's lab named Gunner. Gunner was the leader of the pack and Buttermilk Farm Kingpin. He was white-faced, silently stubborn, and dedicated as the day is long.

Curtis
Yellow Pound Cake
While no pup could replace Gunner, Curtis has done his best to fill his shoes. Curtis is "daddy's boy" ... he loves looking out the back window of the truck as he and Scott head to work (or anywhere)!! He's the head of the office greeting committee.
Curtis loves playing ball, sitting with dad in his favorite chair, eating snacks, and taking afternoon walks on the farm with the dog pound crew.
Drake
Dark Chocolate with a hint of espresso
Drake was given to Scott and Meredith's son, Bo, as his 8th grade graduation gift. Drake was the gift that kept on giving! He was goofy, loved to swim and retrieve and just kept the family laughing. He also cost quite a few visits to the animal ER!
Grizzly
Milk Chocolate with Chocolate Chips
Grizzly was also an 8th grade graduation gift, given to Tabb, Scott and Meredith's youngest son. Tabb had no idea how fitting Grizzly's name would be when he tagged him with it!
This pup is wide open! He loves playing ball, is a freak of an athlete and does not know the word quit! He gives his brothers a run for their money. Can't help but love him.
Ruby
Red Velvet
Last but certainly not least in the Layton's very own "original dog pound" was Meredith's first miniature red dachshund, Ruby. Ruby was the oldest and bossiest member of the family! She was the only other girl in the family, so she and Meredith had a silent unsaid code between them to keep those boys in line! (Yeah, right! LOL!)
Maple
Maple with a Crunch Topping
Leading as the first pup in the new pound crew is Maple. Maple has a feisty personality underneath her beautiful maple colored coat. She's fast as lightning and marches to the beat of her own drum. There's no lack of excitement when Maple's in the room!
